“Speak tenderly to them. Let there be kindness in your face, in your eyes, in your smile, in the warmth of your greeting. Always have a cheerful smile. Don’t only give your care, but give your heart as well.”
– Mother Teresa
I am a DONA International trained Birth Doula, providing emotional, physical and educational support for mom’s to be and her birth partner in the Kerry, Cork and Limerick area, including hospital and home births.
As your doula I will work with you, get to know you and your birth partner, provide evidence based information and help you prepare for your birth – your way! On the day I will be a constant support to you, both emotionally and physically.
I draw on my professional training, knowledge and experience to provide emotional support, physical comfort and knowledge. I can provide reassurance and perspective to you and your partner, make suggestions for labour progress, and help with relaxation, massage, acupressure, positioning and other techniques for comfort.
A little bit about how I became a Doula:
I slowly delved into the “birth world” after the birth of my first daughter. I wanted to educate myself as much as possible, for hopefully future pregnancies. During that time I certified as a GentleBirth Instructor and trained as a Doula. I am currently working towards certifying as a Birth Doula.
During my second pregnancy and birth of my son I got to experience continuous care by my homebirth midwife throughout pregnancy and birth. This experience thought me so much and spurred me on to offer my service of a doula to mom’s to be and her birth partner.
I am a member of the Doula Association of Ireland and work through Ireland’s only Doula Agency DoulaCare Ireland. If you are interested in having a Doula support you during pregnancy and birth, you can get in touch with me or contact Mary or Jen at DoulaCare Ireland.
